Welcome back to Tire Mom! As I set out for Arizona from California, I had to stay updated on the weather. Hurricane Rosa was wreaking havoc, which you wouldn’t think would be a problem in the desert, but flash flooding kills many people every year. I chose what I thought was the best route – and it was. However, not long after I arrived in Phoenix, the rain came down in sheets, and there was massive flooding in the area. If you’re never seen a desert flood, well . . . you’re fortunate. Scary stuff.

Me, Jon, Allyson and their daughter

Despite the rain I was able to meet the next day with my nephew Jon and his lovely wife and their equally lovely daughter. As a family they became Tire Mom #41, and by now you know how I feel about family.

I couldn’t linger for long, not with the storm heading northeast. Wolverine, Gimli and I took out in a northwest direction and stayed ahead of it. That gave me a marvelous view of the famous Joshua Trees. They were named by the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who settled there, because the shaggy plants reminded them of the bushy-bearded biblical leader.

Gimli and Joshua Trees

If you want to comment – and as always, I hope you do – will you tell us about a time when a storm made a decision for you? Nature is a force to be reckoned with. We’d like to hear how you did your reckoning.
